5. What are keloids?

Keloids are when the collagen network which makes up scar tissue forms outside the barrier of the original wound or skin injury. They appear like thick, ropey looking scars and are usually darker than the surrounding skin. It is difficult to revise keloids because the actual removal incision may also trigger a keloidal response.

Silicone Sheeting has been shown to significantly help prevent and lessen the appearance of keloidal and hypertrophic scarring.
