I'm 57 years old and will be having arm lipo real soon. My doctor say's he can make considerable improvement but I'm thinking I'll probably want to have the lift done also. I'm 5'6" and weigh l39-142lbs. I probably about 10-15 pounds over ideal weight. Can you tell me your stats? Is it posssible someone my age could get by with the minimal incision lift?

Actually I was 62 years old when I had this procedure done in 2002. I am 5'1" and weigh approximately 110 pounds. I had terrible skin elasticity mostly due to hereditary circumstances. I live in SC. I went to Dr. Mark Richards in Bethesda, MD, who created the minimal incision procedure in the armpit area. He did lipo first and then the procedure. He removed approximately 2 to 2 1/2 inches off of my upper underarm area. I still have a small amount of loose skin left because as he stated, at my age, I will never have the skin elasticity I used to have. But that's OK, because I did not want the long incision procedure done and have my arms scarred up. You can't even see the scars in my armpit area.

Thanks for replying. Do you now feel comfortable wearing short sleeve tops and dresses? What was the recovery like, did you need alot of help?
I will probably be going to Virginia for Symastia repair to my breasts soon. I will be seeing a Dr. Dewire as I hear he is one of the best in this type of surgery. I guess going to Maryland for arms wouldn't be such a big deal but you'd think living in Houston Texas there would be someone good here! We're supposed to be known for our great Medical Centers! I've yet to locate anyone here though. |

I still won't wear sleeveless tops or dresses as I still have a small amount of flab due to my poor skin elasticity. As a matter of fact, I am going back to him in October for a small revision under the arms as he thinks after my surgery, I may have popped some stitches and that could attribute to the small amount of sagging again. It will be done under Local anesthesia and recovery shouldn't be bad. When I had the original surgery, recovery wasn't too bad - you just can't raise your arms over your shoulders for three weeks or lift anything heavy.

Have you had any other plastic surgery? If you still don't feel comfortable wearing short sleeve tops, etc. why did you have it done? How do you know if you have very poor skin elasticity? Can you also tell me how much the procedure costs?
Sorry for all the questions, I just have had such poor results with the surgeries I've attempted so far. After a facelift and working out for years I have a pretty youthful body (IN CLOTHES)and people think my oldest children are my husbands from a previous marriage. I live in Houston and it gets hot here so I'd like to wear a little less in the way of clothing without giving away my age, too much! Thus the armlift consideration. Wish I could have a leg lift to be able to wear shorts too, but there I'm getting ridiculous! |

I also wonder about not wearing short sleaves. If you still have to cover your arms with sleaves, what advantages does the surgery offer? I don't mean to pry.
