I had an augmentation done in July 2005 using smooth silicone implants placed above the muscle. All was fine up until November last year when I noticed that my right implant was getting firmer. I saw my consultant in Janaury who confirmed that a slight capsule was forming. By the time I had my capsulectomy 3 weeks ago, the implant was very firm and very uncomfortable. Straight after the operation the implant felt much smoother, however I have noticed that it now feels virtually the same as before the operation. It aches first thing in the morning (not sure if this is where I sleep on it) and seems to be getting tighter. I'm not sure if this is due to swelling or if a new capsule has formed already? It took approx 16 months for the first one to develop so 3 weeks does seem a bit strange. Could there be any other explanationf or it? I had drains in for one night and the nurse said that there wasn't as much blood as they normally see for capsulectomys. I also get intermitent "stabbing" pains just by the incision was made (under breast). If I do need to have another capsulectomy, should I try a textured implant placed under the muscle? Thanks for any help you can giv

I don't know if I would go with an alternate implant procedure such as placing the implant under the muscle or not? I would go get a another capsulectomy just to see if the problem gets fixed or not! What does your doctor recommend, that should also be your first choice!

Yes i think that is most right solution for this if you have any problems . If something is creating problem then don't pay more for it .

Thanks for your replies. I saw my Consultant a couple of weeks back, I said that the implant felt exactly the same as before the capulectomy and asked if a capsule could form so quickly (within 2 weeks) and he said no. He did say that it looked swollen and that I could have blood around the implant. I asked him if i should be taking any medication or doing massage to which he also said no. I have been taking vitamin e capsules twice a day but it doesn't seem to be getting any softer. The surgeon is meant to be one of the best in the UK but I must admit i'm not 100% confident in his diagnosis. It sometimes feels as though there is something "moving" independantly of the implant just beneath my nipple. I'm convinced it is another capsule and don't think that it's just swelling. I think i'm going to have to find another consultant and get another opinion. Does anyone know how quickly capsules can form? Thanks.

I hope that you don't have to pay for another capsulectomy. The doctor obviously didn't fix the problem the first time, which is what you paid him for. So, he should have to pay for it, not you.
