I got my BA mid October this year. I began to notice that the area right around the incision line on my areola had hardened. Now, when I wear a thin or tight tee , you can see my nipple AND the hardened area where the scar tissue has formed. I don't think this is normal but I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced that. My nurse suggested I lightly rub the area but I'm wondering if it will ever be unnoticeably flat or if I just didn't heal right.

Ok...there is a couple of things you can do....get some straight cocoa butter and release the tension on the area....it could be that the internal sutures are pulling and just need to be released. If this is true you will feel a gentle "pop" and the area will flatten out and be smooth...I know this sounds really gross, but it works...my ps had me do this to all my internal suture areas. The other thing is if this is not a suture issue, but more of a small keloid issue, you can go in and he can inject what is called Kenalog into the area. Kenalog is a steroid and it will help shrink the area and make it smoother. Did you call your PS? When do you see him/her again? YOu might want to call them to see which issue they think you are having.

if you are light skined like me (pale face) thenknow that for me this is the way I heal and can be normal for many. My incision hardens and can easily be felt but by a year it has flattened out and is smooth and thin. This happened to my hysterectomy scar that looked horrendous a couple of months PO but one cannot even see it now..it is very thin and very smooth. Soe PS suggest scar strips like mMederma and hydrocortisone creams.
Have you ever had a scar before? |

My PS told me to massage my scar regularly with either a scar cream (I've been using Scar Zone) or regular lotion. Massaging the scar helps break down the scar tissue. I noticed that my scars (mine run all around my aerolas due to complete aerolar revisions) were raised and a bit hard, but are softening up a lot. I just ran my fingers over my t-shirt and bra to see if I could feel my scars, and can't!

The scar can go down in time. You want to massage it and use scar-reducing cream. If you feel it's very noticable and permanent, I would suggest talking to the plastic surgeon, because he should fix it.
