27. When can I begin having sex again?
Let's consider sex as a form of exercise. Sex raises your heart rate. You are not allowed to exercise or participate in any activities which can significantly raise your heart rate or cause much movement in your breasts for up to two weeks. One could possibly have sex if they do not move too much and quite frankly, not get too excited, which narrows it down drastically doesn't it? How about if you just wait until your surgeon releases you for activity? Better to be safe than sorry. However, if you do have relations remember that antibiotics may adversely affect birth control medication so use another form of protection, as well. |

28. Will I have to sleep on my back or side forever??
No, of course not. At first it is suggested to sleep elevated on your back for 5 to 10 days to help with fluid pooling, throbbing pain and reduce swelling. I eventually moved to sleeping on my side once I got used to it. I can tell you that I was a life long stomach sleeper until I got breast implants years ago and the key word being was. I am able to sleep on my stomach, and occasionally do with the help of my arms at my sides but bent so that my hands are still under my neck. It isn't the most enjoyable thing to do, but it is a change. Think of it this way, it is actually better for your back and decreases wrinkles which are obtained by sleeping on the face. In my book, that's not a bad thing. |

30. Can I drive myself home after surgery if I do not have General anesthesia?
No, you must have someone to drive you home and care for you for the first 24 to 48 hours. This is important. After you have been under any kind of sedation you will have amnesia and also sleep a lot. You must take medications every few hours and more than likely will not hear an alarm. Play it safe, have a caretaker. However, you MAY be able to drive yourself home if you have local only and have overs, but I really doubt it. It isn't unheard of. |

31. I have a ride home from the surgery center but my friend can't stay over that night? Is that okay?
Try to have someone over that night, as said before you are going to sleep a lot and you need to make sure you take your medications and take your temperature. You will also need help to go to the bathroom and to help you out of bed, or eat, or anything. Your surgeon may arrange for one of his staff to come by and check on you or you may opt to stay overnight in the hospital or an aftercare facility. Or have home care. Regardless, it is essential to have a caretaker the first 24 to 48 hours in case any complications of any kind occur and to help you with the above mentioned activities. |

32. I am traveling out of town for my surgery and will stay at a hotel for a few days; can I take care of myself?
If you are traveling out of town your surgeon will usually arrange for one of his staff or a homecare nurse to be with you overnight. Or if he has overnight facilities, this option can be taken. Remember, it is essential to have someone to help care for you the first 24 to 48 hours. |

33. How soon after surgery can I fly in an airplane?
You will need to stay around for the first week in case of any complications and for your follow-up appointments. Plan on staying around your surgeon's office for the first week and then you may travel, however the act of flying should not affect your body after the first 24 to 48 hours. Always check with your surgeon first! |

34. I plan on taking a vacation soon after my breast augmentation, how long should I wait?
This question needs to be addressed by your surgeon since he is familiar with your particular case. You will need to stay around for the first week in case of any complications and for your follow-up appointments. Plan on staying around your surgeon's office for the first week and then you may travel, if you must. However, remember that although you are traveling you need to be very careful because you are not healed well. You will also be fatigued and sore. Do NOT overdo it! You usually may resume normal activities within a few days with the sub-glandular TUBA, although you should not bend over, lift heavy objects or participate in any vigorous activities for at least 3 weeks. As long as you are careful not to do these three things, a vacation is fine. To be on the safe side you should wait at least 5 to 6 weeks before participating in contact sports or any extreme activities. And if the vacation involves a bathing suit, ask your doctor when you should be able to stop wearing the post operative bras during the day. If the operation involves sub-pectoral or full sub-muscular placement of the implants, the recovery times may be slightly longer as the disturbance of the muscle results in a prolonged soreness comparable with a very heavy pectoral work out. This may last for several weeks and you are cautioned when lifting your arms over your head, especially with the trans-axillary incision (armpit). I personally waited four weeks and then went on a month long train/rollerblading trip and was fine. Mind you I had TUBA the first time. My second surgery, six years later, was even easier. Although the actual incision areas were tender (I had a peri-areolar lift with my implant upgrade), the general recovery was very easy and I experienced no soreness of the actual breasts except for at the incision areas. I did have problems with my incisions for many months, but breast-wise nothing. |
