This procedure can restore sun-damaged, wrinkled, blemished, acne scarred or blotchy skin to its original youthful appearance. The results are normally a smoother more even toned textured skin. The skin will look younger, tighter and fresher than before although it cannot remove all facial flaws. Deeper lines, wrinkles and other flaws may require additional treatments or techniques. The chemicals normally used are Trichloracetic acid (TCA). For more superficial lines and blemishes or Phenol (a much deeper and more serious peel) for deeper wrinkles, flaws or discolorations. Regardless, the down time can be considerable so be prepared to take time off for recovery.

How long does it take to recover after getting this chemical peel done?? It sounds really good to improve the skin overall but would there be any side-effects once we get this peel done?

I have definitely considered this but didn't quite understand how it worked. I feared that it would burn me or go too deep in the skin, but I'm sure that it's a safe procedure.

You can do your own peels at home using glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid peel kits that do not affect the deeper skin layers. The outermost layer of skin is affected, the recovery period is MUCH shorter, and the cost is much less.
Normally you will use the peel once a week for about 6 weeks, then have a week or two of rest, and start the cycle again as you see fit. Even though the home peels are not as deep as those with a dermatologist, the skin still improves and tightens. I used home peels periodically and the results are great! |
