lap band vs gastric bypass?

I am currently trying to decide between gastric bypass and the lap band. I hear that you lose more weight faster with the bypass, but the lap band has less infection and side effects on its side. I have also heard that there are women who got the lap band and failed to lose much weight at all.
Does anyone have any experiences with either of these procedures? Would you tell us?

I don't have any experience with this procedure but I know that gastric bypass is permanent and cannot be reversed, while Lap Band is temporary. I think I wouuld much rather have a temporary fix!!!

That's a good point, Chris. The two friends I know who have had bariatric surgery both had gastric by-pass and it's amazing how good they look. One of those friends told me her sister had the lap-band and only lost about forty pounds. That's a very expensive forty pounds!
