How common are gastric bypasses?

I don't know anyone who went ahead with this gastric bypasses. Does it really help out?? I would prefer other ways rather than a surgery.

Or another scenario could be that b/c they've been overweight they're entire lives, that even once they're thin, they can't cope with the reactions of others or how to cope in a thin world.

there are a lot of celebrities that get this procedure done. personally, the only qualified people for this are those where health is threatened. some use it as a lazy way to 'diet'.
