Default What is Jaw Augmentation?

Also known as mandibular augmentation is the use of synthetics or biologicals to augment, or make the jaw bone structure of the face more prominent. It can give balance to an otherwise less defined face or further augment an already existent mandibular structure.

In otherwords, Jaw augmentation is a popular procedure that can add balance to the facial structure. You can repair the congenital deficiency of the jaw also using this procedure.

Many women who have facelifts get talked into those chin implants. I am sure the doctor sells the idea as a balance for an aging face because noses tend to get a little longer with age.

Unfortunately, they look stupid. They make the face huge and are not flattering.

If you look at the distance between Melanie Griffith's lower lip and the tip of her chin, in each picture, you can see the difference!

I have had something weird going on with my jaw since I was a teen and I wonder if I need this surgery, it pops out of alignment especially while I'm eating, and it's not always painful but it scrapes a bit and I worry about long term effects. I have had some pain where I sleep on it wrong and I can't open my jaw wide enough to eat sometimes. I'm not sure what the problem is though! It's been this way about 10 years now.

Soundsl like you need to approach your primary care physiciian with this problem. I say that because you probably need to have it treated as something other than a cosmetic procedure so your insurance will cover it!

I agree. I forget what the name of this condition is, but it is more of a medical condition for which your insurance will probably pay.

Is it TMJ? Often Dental insurance will cover this but I am not sure what is done.
