Yesterday I spoke about a cartilage show inside my left hand nostril behind the columella. I rang up my PS's secretary in a bit of a state this morning and blurted out that I thought this was "negligence" meaning that I have been in pain for 3 months with lots of post operative problems and none have been dealt with. My PS is happy to see me (and I have seen him on 4 occasions post operatively) about one thing or another but he seems to pass the buck when it comes to dealing with them. Anyway to cut a long story short, the Secretary emailed him to say the "negligent" word and he denies this and says I can see him as soon as possible - I have sent an apology to him for the outburst! They wanted me to travel some distance today to see him but I can't make it due to family commitments so I have left it with them to organise a local appointment next week. I don't know that I can be bothered as I'm sure he will say "see what the ENT specialist reports"Being a fairly decisive person, I am at a complete loss at this moment in time. I don't know what to do. I spoke with AVMA as well this morning about possible negligence and they have advised me to see what the ENT specialist reports first before taking any action and reporting back to them after. This pain I'm experiencing is so overwhelming at times and I don't think I can wait for compensation side of things or be stressed with legal action as I am stressed enough as it is. I think I may have to get some sort of revision done elsewhere although now it is not cosmetic (I am perfectly happy with my nose externally), it is the inside that is the problem!
I am so unhappy with the inside of my nose that I'm now wishing I had never had it done in the first place. |

The trouble is surgery going wrong isn't always negligence and this is why it's so hard to prove. Also I've said this before on the other board and I'll say it again. I think BAAPS is an old boy's club and it is very difficult to get one of them to speak out against another. It's the 'there but for the grace of God go I' attitude.
But at this stage I would think you are entitled to use the word 'negligence' because that is how you feel. And he has certainly neglected to give you proper care. He needed to help you sort your problems before this without farming you out to the NHS. The awful thing is the surgeon who has messed up for whatever reason just wants the unhappy patient to disappear. To be fair perhaps he hasn't realised the pain you are in or how strongly you feel. Don't apologise to him. You are upset because whatever he has done has caused you problems you didn't have before and they need sorting out. Give him a chance to do this. But he should do it now. He should at least give you the money back so you have the cash to seek further treatment. But you need to find out what is wrong with you before you decide anything. You probably need a cat scan or whatever they do to examine sinuses. Have you googled rhinoplasty complications? I seem to remember a very rare one. I wonder if bone dust can get into the sinuses. The PS must have some sort of clue what is wrong. You've let us see how upset you are. Let him see it as well. You could also mention you are on a message board. But maybe save that for later. Try tears for now. Crying It's no good telling you to cheer up or think positive. You've got to take action I'm afraid. But it's not easy. |

I say go back to your surgeon and demand that he fix the problems.
Of course, I think you need to accept that there are going to be side effects from any cosmetic surgery. That's why it is important to think long and hard before choosing to get one. |
